Back from a break ...

There it was when I went to Axels, Loops, and Spins 's Figure Skating Blog Check on the lower right side. I hate to see it get that bad. Under Ice Charades it said

I'm really sorry about that kids, but let's be honest, I bet you didn't even miss me. Skating is on hiatus everywhere right now. The GP season is hard to remember, the Olympics is long gone, Worlds were a blip, Evan's done dancing and I think the catfight is over, Johnny's busy writing a book right now, and my book sales are low, low, low right now.

The only thing I have to look forward to in skating news is IceMom's - Ask The Expert with Brian Boitano.

But I got to tell you, right now in Mexico and in many, many other countries in the world they've got the fever. World Cup fever!

Remember all the excitement we skating fans had leading up to the Olympics? Imagine if every one of your neighbors had been that excited too. Awesome.

I've seen it building for two to three months now. More commercials of the Mexican soccer team on tv, more South African World Cup souvenirs and green t-shirts everywhere in the grocery stores and malls, big, flat-screen tvs showing up in restaurants, food courts, hotel lobbies, etc etc.

And then came the official word - my husband's office will be officially closed for all Mexico games. I bet 99% of the offices will. That means this country is going to practically shut down for the first round of games. I'm suspecting that schools might close too. Nobody's getting any work done.

I wish skating had that kind of following, but I'm just glad the skating fans it does have are so solid!

Too bad about your book sales. I just wanted to let you know that I just finished it and I love it! I even wrote about it on my blog. I would love to see a second book with more stories.

I've always enjoyed listening to show stories. Both my parents toured with Aeros Circus and Holiday on Ice back in the 1950s around Europe and I still enjoy hearing about all of the antics.

Hey, Jenny!

Thanks for the link about the upcoming Brian Boitano interview! I skipped all over town when I found out it would happen! Then I lost my debit card...and stopped skipping.

Sorry to hear your book sales are down. I'm sure they'll pick up when the season starts again.

Enjoy your Mexican Soccer holiday!

@Nike - I wish you could make the games a holiday - is there a tv at the workplace? At my husband's office they all chipped in to buy a big, swanky flat-screen tv and after the World Cup is over they will raffle it off to one of the workers. What team are you rooting for?

@Silver Blades - Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you loved the book - that gives me some motivation for number two. I think sales are slow now because no one thinks of skating in the summer. (Which is why I used to love skating in the summer, when no one was there on public sessions!) And thanks for the shout-out on the blog - that helps a lot!

@IceMom - Brian is a great get, I've got to say. One question to ask him would be if he ever had to or suggests eating only certain food types for digestive reasons (for example, not mixing proteins with carbs, etc) and does that give the skater better performance. Can't wait to see that post.

You're right about the holiday - there was a guy selling jerseys in the streets. It's fun to be here right now.

Thanks guys!

Can hardly wait for the next book! I would love to hear what happens with the show and all the people.

I am also interested to hear Brian's question on nutrition and skating. There isn't enough information out there for us skaters. I've had to resort to reading nutrition books for runners.
